Some of the most successful and addictive mobile games to date.

Mobile gaming has revolutionised the gaming industry. Not only are they extremely addictive and fun to play but they also make tonnes of profit. Even those games that are free to download generate a fortune in revenue.
4 Pics 1 Word is a puzzle that combines words and pictures. The developers; LOTUM GmbH developed the game that’s free to download.AS the name suggests, for each level four pictures are displayed and the gamer must attempt to work out what the word is from a set of letters under the pictures. How do they generate money? Ads that appear during the game can be removed through in-game purchases.
Dots which was recently released last April by Betaworks got over a million downloads in just a week of its release and was the top free app in eight countries, with the number of downloads doubling after the second week and users had played approximately 100 million games. The game is renowned for its simplicity and addictiveness. Also, the developers kept focused on the user’s experience and not on how to make money out of it which is a rarity in this era.
Fruit Ninja is a mobile game developed by Halfbrick Studios in Australia. In Fruit Ninja, the player slices fruit with a blade controlled via the touch screen. As the fruit is thrown onto the screen, the player swipes their finger across the screen to create a slicing motion, attempting to slice the fruit in half- simple. There are three game modes, Zen, Arcade and Classic, each with their on different features.
Angry Birds, developed by Rovio Entertainment was first released in December 2009. The game is simple, yet very addictive. It is one of the largest mobile application successes ever, with 2 billion downloads across all platforms. There has been countless themed versions of Angry Birds, with titles like Angry Birds Rio, Angry Birds Space and Angry Birds Star Wars all are relevant to the ‘hot topics’ of the time of their release.

Temple Run is a single player game developed and published by Imangi Studios. The game involves running, jumping, and dodging obstacles through a virtual jungle as the player takes on the role of an explorer who has stolen an idol from a temple, with a demonic monkey hot on their heels. It became the number one free application in the middle of 2012. Its sequel Temple run 2 was also released in January 2013 and has proved even more addictive to its predecessor.



Plants vs. Zombies developed and published by Popcap Games is a game that can be played by one or more players. The game involves a homeowner using a variety of different plants to prevent an army of zombies from entering their house there are three game modes; the primary game mode is a single-player, multi-player and Adventure mode in which the player can earn money to spend at an in-game store to buy bonuses such as new seed packets.
First prize however, goes to the highly addictive Candy Crush Saga, a single player game developed by King. It entails matching three, four or five pieces of the same kind of sweets or candy in a board filled with different coloured sweets and obstacles. The game has many different levels; each level can only be unlocked after the completion of the previous one. But be warned, this highly addictive game can lead users into spending a fortune on Power-ups and lives.
The best thing about all of these simple and highly entertaining games is that they’re suitable for all ages and are as equally fun as they are addictive.
